Members 75 All round – 5th to 18th May 2007
The title says it all. You’ve got to be good at everything to do well here.  The first of this year’s members’ competitions proved to be a huge success with plenty of entries, a “nail biting” finish and a few new names at the top of the leader board due to our new handicap system. The competition required each shooter to complete a round of skeet, DTL and sportrap. The scores were then adjusted to make each discipline out of 75 and then totalled to make a possible top score of 225. Scores worthy of note were achieved by Ben Pay & Stuart Earl straighting the skeet and John Taylor straighting the sportrap. No-one quite managed to straight the DTL but Ian Humphries & Peter Brown came closest posting a very creditable 74. However, consistency was clearly the name of the game with Steve Leonard, the joint leader prior to handicaps being applied scoring a 24 in the skeet, 72 in the DTL and 24 in the sportrap. This totalled 216 which was matched by Ben Pay, tremendous shooting from them both. Ben maintained his victor status even after the handicaps were applied showing how superbly he had shot with an overall score of 238. However, as shooters could only receive one prize for each competition Matt Sheppard was first after handicap shooting 235 and Ian Humphries second on 233. As for Steve, well he slid down the scale somewhat as he was shooting off scratch but at least he received some prizes for his joint top score.  Well done to all for taking part and lets look forward to a rematch next year!

Members 50 Skeet – 2nd to 15th June 2007
What could be simpler? 2 rounds of skeet. Must be loads of shooters capable of straighting that. Apparently not as only one shooter, Mark Smith, managed it during the entire fortnight. Well done Mark. However, as with all members’ competitions this year, Mark was subject to having his handicap applied which meant he slid to 5th overall as several shooters rather interestingly managed to score higher once the handicaps were applied. Other good scores worthy of note were Trevor Sharp (the eventual winner after handicap with 54.5) on 48 / 50, as were Ben Pay and Roger Bonner. After handicaps, in second place were Peter Maguire and John Taylor on 53.5 and Tim Tyler on 53.

Members 50 Sportrap – 30th June to 13th July 2007
Shot over two different layouts, this was arguably the toughest of the members’ shoots for this year. The clubhouse layout provided a tough start with a wide variety of targets from fast quartering targets to a pretty evil battue.  The basin layout however was the one that sorted the men from the boys with all the targets being hugely testing. Before the handicaps were applied the top scores were a very impressive 46 from Steve Leonard and Colin Meeks. After the handicaps, Roger Bravery took the honours with a total of 52.5. Second place was won by Dean Quince on 52.

Members 50 Fitasc – 4th to 17th August 2007
The other tough shoot of the year was this one, the FITASC. Shot strictly to the correct rules each shooter was presented with 50 challenging targets. This time it was the turn of Nigel James and Tony Leonard to share the top honours before the handicaps were applied, both shooting a very worthy 46 ex. 50. This was even more impressive when you consider that 3rd place was shared by Simon Brown and Mike Gammon who were a clear three targets less on 43. After handicaps, first place was taken by Malcolm Clare with a 53.8 who just “pipped” Keith Armer into second place who scored a 53.6. Also worthy of note was Denise Butler’s score of 52 (after handicap – 37 before) who came third which is an incredible achievement with those two great tits getting in the way all the time (Nigel and Simon that is!).
